Stuff this geezer encountered on the road and off

…a not so short story

I was fooling around with my Facebook profile back in March ’20 and managed to get myself banished. In good faith, I resubmitted ID’s and such to get reinstated but to no good end. Maybe the password resets with various versions using a “FuckUZuck123” “ZuckU*unt321” theme approaches were being monitored, so maybe try a different tact.

I’ll just RANT for a bit or maybe I’ll start a blog.

I’ve been working with computers since ’89. Was part of a Bulletin Board Group (BBS) in Baltimore in ’93 or ’94. Remember AOL, 2400 baud modems and the entire Photoshop program was contained on about 6 floppy discs? The coming 14.4, 28.8 and 56k baud modems would be like standing in front of a microwave yelling “Faster, Faster.” Current internet speeds would have cost $1,200.00 a month and up per phone line. Crazy.

Listen and remember…

The BBS was most interesting. A nice collection of people, mostly anonymous, with as many points of interest, opinions, foibles and insecurities as grains of sand on a beach. Some nice as hell others not so much. Anonymity does not bring out the best in people, it didn’t back in ’91 and fast forward to the Facebook, Twitter, forced shut down virtual Zoom shit show of today. I saw the potentials for abuse and there have been no disappointments. I think what surprised me the most is how vane, self-centered and naive people have become. The internet was and always will be a public information reservoir…or cesspool…that never fills up. What you share is shared forever. However deep you think your past pics or posts have sunk, they will tend to float back to the top at one point in time or another. The internet never forgets and in these days of the Social Justice Warrior, never forgives either.

If you can count the number of friend you have with three fingers you are truly blessed.
